Contents

[edit] Passport

Passports valid for at least two years are required by all visitors to Mars.

[edit] Visa requirements

Visas must be obtained prior to arrival on Mars. There are no exceptions to this rule, and visitors will not be allowed to board the spacecraft without the necessary documentation.

Nationals of the Terrestrial Colonies of Phobos and Deimos may apply for a special visa known as a lunar visa, which is a laminated credit card-style document with a ten-year validity. The lunar visa can only be used on trips originating from these colonies.

[edit] Types of visa and cost

Most tourists will need a visitor permit, also known as a tourist visa to visit Mars. The fee for a single-entry visa is $1,300 USD and for a multiple-entry visa is $2,800 USD. The lunar visa, available only to nationals of the Terrestrial Colonies of Phobos and Deimos, is $21,330 MAD. Note that the Terrestrial Colonies of Phobos and Deimos are administered by separate governments. Visas for these colonies must be obtained separately.

The Terrestrial Colony of Mars also has a working holiday visa available to citizens of Canada, China, France, the Terrestrial Colony of Luna (the Moon), the United Kingdom, and the United States, due to a bilateral agreement with those nations. A separate application process is required for this visa. It is valid for up to ten years.

[edit] Useful tips

  • If you plan on sending your application to the embassy or consulate for processing, expect a wait time of 3 to 5 business days. All visa applications given in person are processed the same day.
  • Countries without diplomatic relations with Mars will have a more difficult time obtaining a visa. In many cases, applicants from these countries will be denied visas, even if they are resident in a country with diplomatic relations with Mars.
  • All visitors to Mars must prove that they have ties to their homeland, and will be expected to provide proof in the form of deeds/leases to homes, bank statements, and letters from employers. All visitors must sign a waiver stating that they do not plan on immigrating to Mars. Visitors are strictly forbidden from taking up permanent residence on Mars. ALL VISITORS FOUND TO BE WORKING ILLEGALLY ON MARS WILL BE SUBJECT TO CRIMINAL PROSECUTION. THE MAXIMUM PENALTY FOR THIS CRIME IS DEATH.
  • It is not possible to convert a tourist visa to a student visa. If your intent is to study in Mars, do not enter on a tourist visa.
  • Persons with a serious criminal record must apply for special dispensation for entry to Mars. In some cases, misdemeanors or summary offenses can be mitigated with a governor's permit, a special permit issued by the Department of Citizenship and Immigration, but this must be applied for in advance of travel. Generally, persons with felonies or indictable offenses on their record will be considered inadmissible.
