[edit] Questions

I am a US citizen who is in France already and looking to stay for another 90 days. (I came in under a regular 90 day tourist visa) Would like some advice on how best to extend my stay without running afoul of any requirements etc. Do i need to applyfor an exentsion and if so, how long does this process take, what documents will I need to prodcue and what is the likelihood that I get to stay another 90 days? Is it easier for me to just exit the country (a non-EU country) and come back? (Discussed on Thorn Tree World)

You will get another 90 days after you've been outside of Schengen for 90 days. Simply hopping over the border for a day or two doesn't work. I'm not aware of any possibility of getting an immediate extension, but maybe someone else knows more. It's best to check these issues with the embassy/consulate directly.
