Visa to Thailand

[edit] Questions

We are currently in Siem Reap and had planned to travel to Bangkok overland from here. After speaking to a fellow traveler this evening who had come from the opposite direction, we are considering our options. He mentioned that visas are temporarily not issued on the Thai / Cambodian border for tourists wanting to enter Thailand. Is this true? If so, does anybody have any suggestions where we could obtain a Thai visa at this late stage. We are reluctant to return to Phnom Penh.

Also, what is the visa status of Polish citizens? I am Australian and my traveling companion is Polish. Is she entitled to a 15 or 30 day visa?

Are Australians entitled to a 30 day visa when crossing between the Thai and Cambodian borders (near Poipet)?

Is there a reputable website we could access to find out the current situation?

Thank you in advance for any information.

Best wishes, Brett

There have been two recent changes.

1. You can only use the 30 day visa waiver for a maximum of 90 days total (when you add up all the days you've actually spent in Thailand, if you've been coming and going to neighboring countries) within a 6 month time frame. Add up all your days spent in Thailand eg. if it comes to say... 67 days in the last 6 months, they'll give you 90 minus 67 = 23 days visa free.

2. Technically, for the 30 day visa waiver you have always supposed to have had an onward ticket with a reservation within 30 days of entry. It's just that recently immigration have started to enforce that.

But as Siam daze says, it could all depend on what mood the immigration officers are in.
